Hi everyone,

Since Borja opened the topic of translating the user guide for WSJT-X,
I would like to offer my services in doing the same but into the Swedish
language (if there isn’t anyone already doing this?). To be honest I´m more
used to working with MS Word professionally but I´m a Quick learner in general
and up for a challenge! 😊

I´ve already downloaded the content of the user guide directory as suggested by
Bill and have made a quick look in what will have to be done. I´ve also
downloaded an editor and a plugin for chrome for previewing, however I would
like some help in getting started.

Hi Borja, Joe and other potential translators,

I would suggest, for now, copying the whole content of the
^/branches/wsjtx/doc/user_guide/ directory including the images. It
might be worthwhile for technical reasons to move the current sources
down one level into an 'English' directory, I could easily add a loop to
the CMake script to generate User Guide documents for a list of
languages. If everyone is happy with this approach I can make the
necessary changes in a few minutes.

I know the above seemingly duplicates the PNG images but at some point
WSJT-X UI translations should be done to complement the User Guide
translation and language specific PNG images could (should) be made too.
Qt has good support for localization of the UI, it requires learning
some Qt specific tools to maintain the translated strings but they are
themselves graphical and reasonably user friendly. The CMake build
script and application source code have most of the support required for
including localized UI strings in a build already, but I have not tested
since I originally implemented it.

For now a basic translation of the User Guide seems a great place to
start but anyone taking this on must be prepared to take ownership of
the translated files for future releases, there is a lot of new
functionality on the way that will also need translating.
