The version on the system is gfortran-mp-5; gfortran-mp-6 doesn’t exist:

I had both homebrew and macports installed earlier - thought maybe they were 
conflicting, so I uninstalled both, then followed your guide, installing 
everything the way you recommended.  

I also just checked the app store to see if my Xcode is up to date - no updates 
shown.  The version of Xcode is 7.3.1.
