DXpeditions - FT8, Split or not to split
Thanks for sharing your ideas on this topic.
We (the WSJT developers, that is) will be happy to offer advice, when/if
asked. But I don't consider it our task to tell the DXpedition crew
what their operating procedures should be.
What I *do* consider important for us is to provide operating controls
that will do the best possible job of supporting the FT8 protocol in
pileup situations.
Ned, AA7A, made a seemingly good point about needing handy use of
function keys for controlling progress of a QSO. DXped ops "never use a
mouse", etc., etc. With a multi-decoding system like FT8 likely
producing decodes from 30 or more eager callers, how are we to choose
one of them with function keys?
We have this same problem when doing EME on 2 meters with MAP65,
especially during an EME contest. We handle it nicely there, using a
mouse -- but the EME QSO rate does not generally exceed 15/hour.
Suggestions are welcome.
