Hi Colin,
that probably means that you do not have a working frequency set up for
the band and mode the rig was on before you entered the settings window.
That alone should not cause spots to be reported on the wrong band. You
must be using JTAlert for spots to be propagated to HamSpots, does
JTAlert show the right band in its title bar when you start WSJT-X and
JTAlert for the first time?
If you see the issue again then Laurie, VK3AMA, may be able to diagnose
further if you send him an automated support request from JTAlert. I
believe JTAlert stores the last 24 hours of a considerable amount of
internal data which is attached to any support request for diagnosis.
