Thanks for your replies. I understand the situation now and (at this point)
plan to use the repeater solution.
Laurie: JTAlertX is a nice app and I'm looking forward to your re-write with
the new UDP features.

I'm already convinced. I would make the change if I could but the current
compiler used for JTAlert only has simple UDP support, it doesn't allow for
SO_REUSEPORT or SO_REUSEADDR flags and doesn't support UDP multicast.

JTAlert is undergoing a ground-up rewrite (still some months away from
release) using a modern compiler that allows for setting of SO_REUSEPORT and
SO_REUSEADDR and also supports joining a multicast group.
