This is by far the simplest and most logical  solution but I get the
impression that it is not desirable to make locking TX and RX simple forcing
everyone into split operation for ease ??

Or, if one mouse button set the RX frequency, and the other set the TX
frequency, each of these steps could be done in a single click.

It is the same with FT8. Just some open minded learning and some practice.
I do not have any difficulties, with one hand, to move my TX to wanted 
slot first by right clicking desired point on waterfall to get my RX 
there and then clicking "TX<-RX".
