Hi there,
I am running an older Athlon XP 3200+ CPU with Win XP for amateur
radio. I have installed your software WSJT-X v1.8.0, but when starting
it, it produces the error message "The application failed to
initialize properly (0xc000001d). Click on OK to terminate the
application".
By research, I have found out that this message is due to some
software code that requires SSE / SSE2 in order to start the program.
Is there a chance that you make changes to your software so that older
Athlon CPUs that are not SSE compliant will work with WSJT-X? It would
be great if you do so, as I would like to become active in FT8 which
is currently not possible.
If you have a further developed version, I would be happy to test it
on my system.

Hi Christian,
Windows XP is passed end of life with Microsoft support and it is not
technically possible to install Windows XP any more as service packs and
all updates are no longer available. Also there is no current (and
therefore secure) Internet browser available that runs on Windows XP.
Currently we support Windows XP with WSJT-X but that will probably end
in the near future as the providers of third party tools and libraries
we use are dropping support and we do not want to deprive our users of
new features and fixes nor do we wish to support multiple versions of
the Windows version and installer just to maintain support for a few
users of ancient operating systems.
The problem with AMD Athlon 32-bit and Athlon XP CPUs is that AMD did
not bother to add the SSE2 instruction set to these chips even though
Intel had already delivered it before the launch of Windows XP on the
Pentium 4 chip and the specification was in the public domain. Window
itself requires SSE2 support from Windows 8 onwards.
I am not sure which part of WSJT-X requires SSE2 but it may be a library
we use rather than the code code.
