On my rig (ANAN-100B/OpenHPSDR), v1.4rc split mode indeed does cause VFO
A to move down 500Hz for each 500Hz below 1500Hz the tx is set to and
vice versa (VFO A shifts up) for tx settings 1999Hz.
Rig mode, however, does not work on my rig. It puts it in split (VFO B
on), but does not trigger a tx and CAT comm fails when you click tx or
tx is enabled and tx starts. Interestingly though, clicking "push to
talk" in the config window when in "split" mode does cause a tx carrier.
I have my rig set for TS-2000 (the only Hamlib driver it seems to work
with) in the WSJT-X CAT settings.
Given that keeping modulation drive appropriate for your rig, handles
sideband suppression pretty well, I wonder if the extra congestion of
1500Hz to 2000Hz when using "rig" or "fake it" is worth pushing. I think
I will not use the shifting modes at this point.

Hi all,
I have already mentioned what my FT-847 does when I as a hound choose
'Rig': It switches the radio to SAT mode!.....................

Hi Al & All,
Manual not real clear about what ?fake it? actually does.
If my observation is right, the real split mode is using the secondary
VFO of your XCVR, sometimes set to a different frequency as the main
VFO, as the VFO of the TX phase. In contrast, in fake split mode, only
the main VFO is used and its frequency is changed sometimes during the
TX phase. The goal is always to maintain the audio frequency, during the
TX phase, in the 1500 to 2000 Hz range. You can only use the real split
mode if your rig has a secondary VFO and if it's capable of switching
the VFO's using CAT commands.
