I agree it should be decoupled, but disagree that a button that's used at most
twice a year deserves a spot on the main screen. It should be in settings along
with other rarely-used options.

Is there any reason why the WSJT-X "NA VHF Contest" checkbox cannot be
decoupled from the "Enable VHF/UHF/Microwave Features" check box under the
"General" settings tab? One of the most frequent questions asked on contest
club reflectors, prior to and during the recent ARRL VHF Contest, related to
how to find the "NA VHF Contest" box.
If that check box is always available on the main screen, when an alert message
about having to be in the VHF Contest mode pops up, it would be less
complicated for all to activate it. This is especially important for the newer
or more casual FT8 ops who haven't yet read the manual.
A number of post-VHF contest emails, specifically mentioned the problem of
trying to complete contest QSOs with casual FT8 ops who called w/o activating
the "NA VHF Contest" box, which probably didn't even appear on their main
