For what it is worth I have found it quite easy to manually sync the time on a tablet PC / laptop while operating from remote locations. It is usually quite obvious when a re sync is needed while running FT8 on 50 MHz for example. I'm still considering getting a GPS synced (with hold over to handle GPS signal loss) NTP server for my truck based roving and for back packing I like to keep things as light and simple as possible. Time sync is low on my list of open issues regarding portable / roving use of the JT modes.
I usually re sync when I see a significant number of "DT" reports of .5 of a second or more. 73 Mark Spencer VE7AFZ netsyn...@gmail.com > On Aug 4, 2018, at 8:15 AM, Claude Frantz <claude.fra...@bayern-mail.de> > wrote: > > On 08/04/2018 04:45 PM, DG2YCB, Uwe wrote: > > Hi Uwe, Mike & All, > >> when you are operating portable from fieldday or even from the top of a >> mountain (as heard today…) sometimes it is not that easy to sync time of >> your notebook PC, > > In such situations, my preferred solution is to use a GPS mouse together with > a suitable software.
