I loaded RC5 this afternoon. I went to 40m and almost immediately made five contacts. I got great signal reports. Then..... nothing. The waterfall has been completely full of strong signals, but nothing was decoding. No 77 bit signals. I called CQ on and off for three hours. No responses. So I checked the PSK Reporter. I’m in Dallas, Texas. My signal was being received in four European countries, two South American countries and all over NA. Many people were receiving me at over +10db SNR. Obviously, a lot of people are monitoring for 77 bit signals. Did I already work all these people? Are all these stations unattended? I suspect it’s a combination of these things.
My conclusion so far is that RC5 is working very well. It’s just very lonely limiting myself to 77 bits. Chuck KG6PH
