My vote is for keeping the tab 2 messages window/layout. I find tab 2 faster for selecting the appropriate message and the “free text” message easier to use - maybe it is the bigger/bolder select buttons, vs the undifferentiated (for tx, rx), smaller selection targets of tab 1.
