As far as I know FT8 is the only mode that has different reporting for normal qso and for contest qso.

From the early beginning we have used to have RST reporting because until these days it has been a man made one. In HF contests "599" or "5nn" has become the only "so called" report in 99,9% of cases. It is just a string, not a real report.

Joe and his team as done great work and introduced whole new way of making qsos with low power and in poor conditions. Why we have to stay in old fashion reporting system in FT8 contesting when everything else is modern technology?

It is rather stupid to make a conversion routine to create 5x9 report from modern dB report. It has just 2-9 steps, while dB offers a large scale.

Thousands of computers are running this conversion during contest although we could send normal dB report and just change just one program; The cross checking program of contest logs. I suspect those programs do just string comparisons, so it might that they do not need any change at all.

So may I ask why not take a step to  2010 century and forget RST reporting in FT8 contests?

It is just matter of contest rule change!
