If you already have an SSB transmitter (as most people do), that is the most convenient way. It has already been done. It's not that hard to do. A local group is working on a homebrew transceiver that will be capable of FT8 and other similar modes. SSB transmit capability is not a goal so the audio from the computer can't be used. Instead we are generating the RF directly with a DDS chip.
