Glen,

after a rapid forensic analysis it appears that:

*1)* you're running Ubuntu, or some variant of it, such as Mint
[that information is important for debugging, especially when it's
   other people helping one!]

*2)* *version 1.1 is the default version* in the *Ubuntu
repositories* for Ubuntu 14.04 to 18.04 and on to 18.10. Even the
almost ready-to-be-released 19.04 only has version 2.0.0 [Why this
is so is outside the scope of this discussion.]

*3)* Thus we conclude that though you *thought* that the downloaded
*wsjtx_2.0.1_amd64.deb* package had been installed, it had *not* been.

How to install the correct version?

*The simple way, given where you are now*
*a)* Search for and install another package, called *gdebi*.

[Gdebi allows one to install Debian packages from a GUI.]

*b)* Select the downloaded *wsjtx_2.0.1_amd64.deb* package in the
file manager with a *right click* and follow the option to *open in
Gdebi*. Allow Gdebi to install the package.

*c)* Check that WSJT-X really is version 2.0.1. If not report back
for further assistance on the debugging front, or if there are
   problems on the way here.

PS: There is a more elegant solution to your problem, but that is perhaps for another day.

New to Linux here, but downloaded the file named wsjtx_2.0.1_amd64.deb <http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx_2.0.1_amd64.deb> and installed it.  Runs great, but it's version 1.1 - from before FT8.

Did I miss something?
