Never overlook the possibility that the other guy is doing something dumb, rather than intentional. Traffic on this reflector and the WSJT reflector clearly indicate that many hams don't know how their radios work, let alone how FT8 works, and are too lazy to RTFM.
Further, I don't see the problem with moving to another offset. I rarely call CQ on FT8 -- rather, I set my TX frequency to what looks like a clear spot and monitor, looking for someone I want to work. When I do, I'm ready to call.
