Maybe the question should be - "Why does selection of F/H mode cause a CAT reset?"

The transition from normal mode to F/H mode is more difficult than it should be.   On some bands monitoring the standard FT8 frequency with 4k RX bandwidth allows F/H operations to be seen before they are spotted.   It would be nice if the dial could be moved up 4k then F/H mode selected with a single mouse click instead of the multiple operations required to select a different configuration and then re-tune the fox.

Hi Andy,

the answer to that is complex. It doesn't actually cause a CAT reset (other settings changes may do exactly that) but in order to ensure that all user interface elements are correctly configured the procedure to initialize the mode is executed when leaving the settings screen with an "Ok" button press, that will select the lowest working frequency available for the current mode and band combination. This action is exactly what users expect when changing mode but has this side effect when making settings changes.

Using a separate configuration for FT8 DXpedition mode with working frequencies just for the currently sought DX operation is by far the best approach IMHO, particularly because it allows very quick QSYs which can make the difference when following a DX operator on band changes as every second won can help beating the thundering herd to the first QSO.
