This has bugged me as well, but I think it should rather leave the frequency alone. A side-bug on this is that when tuning manually elsewhere, and then using the mouse scroll wheel in wsjtx to change bands (my preferred way to operate that widget), it will usually select at 160m instead of the next band from the current frequency.
