there should be no amplitude differences between modes, have you
checked the audio levels out of your sound card?

have you tried a bit more audio drive and letting the rig ALC flatten
the response a bit? You can also adjust the dial frequency and audio
offset to pick the best part of your rig's Tx bandwidth.
