Hello Everyone,

I have been having a great time using digital modes for day to day and
contesting in the VHF/UHF/SHF bands. One very common complaint I get
is that it is difficult to communicate to the other station that you
wish to QSY to the next higher band or a specific band. While using
SSB or CW you can convey your intentions, but while using digital the
only way is to use the free text feature. There are 10 common bands
people use during NA contesting:

2 , 222, 432, 903, 1.2, 2.3, 3.4. 5.7, 10G, 24G

Most will run 6 meters continuously.

Here is my idea, assign each band one letter or number. At the end of
the tx5 message, indicate your next available band or a character to
indicate that the current QSO is the last band you have. I don't
believe that stations are using all the available data to convey the
tx5 message. I had even thought that the tx4 message could be used and
the tx5 message could confirm the next band to QSY to. I am sure that
bands used would be indicated in the setup configuration. Taken a step
further even the Tx1 message could indicate how many or which bands
are available. This idea could also be used for HF Contests.

I am sure others have a better ideas, but it would enhance VHF
contesting without many repeated exchanges of free text during a
contesting.

Thank you all for the many features and improvements made to
accommodate contesting modes.

Phil
