The issue is not that the program threw an error code. Of course
it should throw an error. The issue is that it didn't exit
cleanly and was hung and unresponsive on the computer at least
15 minutes later when I used force quit to blow it away.

This is normal for every computer I’ve had. That’s the error message when the
port goes away (by
powering down the K3). Sounds normal. It can’t communicate
with the rig when it is shut down so it gives you an error. I
always shut down the program before unplugging the USB cable to
the radio. It runs across my desk for easy access in case of
T-Storm. The program still closes when I tell it to ignore,
but works fine when I plug the USB cable back in and reload the
program. You should be fine as soon as you turn the radio back
on and restart the program. Just don’t shut the rig down
without unloading WSJT-X.
