I had an odd situation just now where operating as PP1/WB1BQE, I attempted to work KB1EFS/2 on FT8.   He heard me and appeared to answer by calling me.  I attempted to send back a signal report, but it was truncated as well.

I know there were some complexities surrounding compound calls, but did I hit an architecturally impossible situation,  or did I miss doing something that would have allowed the qso to progress?

Yes, there is a structural problem with both stations having non-standard or compound callsigns. That's the problem with adding /2 to your call when not required, and it hasn't been required for 40 years. You are required to do so. :) Steve should not be adding /2 to his call, just as I should not be adding /6 to mine.
