Most "receiving" antennas for 160m including Beverages actually result in less signal at the receiver compared to "transmitting" antennas, however recieving antennas have _much_ lower noise. As you alluded to the name of the game for receiving is to improve the signal to noise ratio, so a Beverage will improve decoding in many situations.
