As I understand from what you say... if I want to use resource properties I am required to create and add resource properties to the ResourcePropertySet.

 

And there is no way to actually create a preset of resource properties that will be automatically added to the resources?

Sorry, I've just realised that the resource properties document may do

what you want. I'm just not sure if you mean custom resource properties

to be those you want to access via GetResourcePropertyDocument.
