Gary, I've opened bug 233536 for the validation framework performance.

In most cases I think it has to do with the way various components are
implementing the validation scenarios as opposed to a general
performance bug with the new framework. Features of the new framework
help with the use case, but it still takes a huge amount of time to do a
complete validation.
