I agree with Mickael, having multiple isn't great. But since
Mattermost is
a modern tool that people who have joined it, love it. I suggest
dropping
IRC, or trying out the bridge from IRC to Mattermost.
Caveat: I hate IRC and refuse to ever use it so I'm a bit biased. I
guess
Mickael and I will never get to chat in real time. ;)
so, irc, hipchat, slack, glitter and now mattermost.
One thing I realise is that the four latter ones are great for closed
groups (i.e. companies, closed netted),
but suck for open communities.
My vote goes for irc.
If you don't like irc - considered using a decent client ? :)

I believe multiplying the community on multiple channels (IRC vs
Mattermot) is actually a communication and productivity anti-pattern,

divides the community instead of aggregating it.
I'm trying to reduce the amount of IRC-like technologies I use
because
following conversations and topics become a nightmare. So I'll remain
on
good old IRC if you need me.
