I'm not arguing with the need to eliminate the extra layer. But the progress
toward replacing the functionality lags behind my needs. If noting that an
updated version of AutoItX3 can (and does) help with some of the stickier
popup/mouse/cursor issues, I think it is worth mentioning so others can benefit
meanwhile.
