Do you have code running before this that says ie.close?
I've seen this error in these situations.
The best workaround is to do this:
BEGIN { require 'watir'; $ie_save = Watir::IE.new }
Although purists will find this ugly, i think this is best way to avoid
this problem and i'm thinking of committing the equivalent to the Watir
library.
