I think the problem is that you are using "http:" instead of "https:"

I must be missing something simple. I have a folder on my desktop, and I go to checkout with the URL using SVN:

http://svn.openqa.org/svn/watir/branches/firefox

I haven't had trouble checking out other SVN directories in the past.
