Thank’s for the info.  OK. Now, if “$testval” is found, I get the expected result, however, if “$testval” is NOT found in the table I get the following error;

 

>ruby DUPQ.rb

DUPQ.rb:6: undefined method `[]' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)
