Moin,

Gute Nacht,

Hi there,

3rd match day here. Cloud and some drizzle in the morning (Great! no heat, no sun!) and perfect weather in the afternoon. All fields in great condidtion still, no back ups required. Spirits are high.

U20 women
Italy safely won pool B, to take on Great Britain in the quarters, and after a 2:2 pulled away. 2nd place in the pool went to Austria, who then beat Ireland in the quarters, as Germany as pool winners safely beat Finland. The real action happened when the 2nd of pool A, Czech Republic, took on France. Match of the day again on pitch 2, the French opened the scoring and used every single error of their opponents, taking half time at 9:3, and winning it in the end.
So the semis tomorrow will be France vs. Italy and Austria vs. Germany. In the lower bracket, Latvia got a convincing victory over Slovakia and Russia beat a decimated Israel, down to 11 players. So tomorrow Israel take on Slovakia for 11th place, hopefully with some recovered players. Russia and Latvia meet again for 9th place, after their universe point match on Wednesday.

U20 open
Half the teams had only one match today. The highlight were the recovery matches in the afternoon. Only in one case, a team from the lower pool worked it’s way up: Israel, after their unfortunate relegation down, beat Belgium and now meets Germany again. After all the action in this match up on day 1, we can expect another great battle. Who wins, Israel with their spectacular physical play, or the German stable offense?
Sweden beat Italy to take on Austria, Czech republic beat Ireland and play France in their quarter. The hottest recovery match was Switzerland vs. Russia; safely in the lead, they allowed a Russian comeback to 11:12 but then scored the victory point.

U17 women
Germany beat Great Britain, and again quite clearly, to go undefeated. The level of play has increased quite a bit compared to previous years, and this top match attracted an intrigued sideline.
In the lower pool, Netherlands played two good games, but may not play in the semis as a TYRO team. So the important match was then the evening match of Austria vs. France to determine the semis match up. Austria won, so they will again meet Great Britain, whereas France has the tougher shot at Germany. Those matches are played at 11:30 and 12:30, and Finals in the Stadium at 18:30.

U17 open
Great Britain and Germany are cruising, but who will play against them in the semi? Belgium and Ireland are now definitely down, and Sweden as they are a TYRO team. Israel and France are going strong, but Austria was the most determined, in the lead against Great Britain 13:5 when the time cap came on. But Great Britain never gave up and fought their way back in the biggest comeback so far, winning 15:14. Wow! Austria now has to beat Germany to get into semis, unless Israel or France stumble.

A great get together of teams at the stadium in the evening. In the guts tournament, after three rounds Netherlands played Latvia with great catches, so the first junior title goes to... the Netherlands! Afterwards, all the volunteers had a fun night out. Tonight will see a live band, DJs and teams are looking forward to finally dance their legs loose.

Cheers,

Chris
