TL;DR: if you consider English to be your first language, and want to join Mother Tongue at Poolimate in sunny Darmstadt on 11-12 August, then please get in touch asap. And please feel free to forward this to any eligible player in your area.
The backstory: once upon a time there was a team in Germany whose sole purpose was to play ultimate and have fun in English. Between 2003 and 2011, Mother Tongue played 42 tournaments all over Europe, giving temporary safe haven to scores of itinerant students, military personnel and long-term ex-pats from all four corners of the earth.
And this summer, for one weekend only, Mother Tongues returns! Having dusted off the old YahooGroups(!) mailing list and a bunch of potentially defunct email addresses, we cobbled together over a dozen players who were keen to rekindle the magic. But naturally, some of us are little rusty, and could do with some fresh legs. Sure, there are plenty of Germans* who want to play Poolimate (because they know it's the best tournament in Germany!) but we wanted to give some proper native-English-speakers priority.
I'm really excited to play in Germany for the first time in over 7 years, and am looking forward to playing with and against some old friends. And maybe there'll be some beer too.
See you on the field!
Wayne
Speaker of the Mother Tongue
* we have nothing against Germans! Back then, we were happy to welcome Germans to MT, as long as they promised to speak English with us, and some of those ex-Tongues will be playing at Poolimate, but for this outing we'd like to justify the internationalness of our spot at the tournament
