A MTB cleat will work for road riding. A road cleat probably won't work for
MTB riding. In general MTB shoes have 2 bolt pattern for cleats, Road have 3
bolt.

Much of the team is using Crank Bros pedals. They're light and cheap. They
don't last forever, but you can afford to buy a 2nd pair.

MTB shoes also tend to have tread that allows the cleat to be recessed so
you aren't walking on it. This makes walking in the shoes MUCH easier, and
also quieter.

I personally don't think I'll ever buy a road shoe again, but that’s just my
opinion, based on the fact that a MTB shoe, while it might not be as light
or stiff as a road shoe (it can be), MTB cleat/pedals are more versatile. I
also don't care much for super stiff soles, as a little flexibility makes it
much easier to walk/run. And yes, sometimes you do that. But again, that’s a
personal thing.

The one problem will be sizing. Rather sucks to pay $200 for a pair of shoes
that you aren't sure fit right. As for pricing on this order, the lowest
price is a little under $100, and goes up from there.

I could be interested, but I would like to buy (for now) just a pair of
shoes for both mtb and road, which one do you suggest?

And which is the price?

thanks

We have been offered a substantial discount on Gaerne shoes for a one time
order by an independent online distributor or clothing. Is anyone out there
interested in getting shoes? (todd, they have hard core winter stuff). I'm
not going to post the pricing b/c as always, that's confidential but if
you're interested...ask me and i'll share.
look at Gaerne's 2011 catalog for the product line, there are limits on
sizing for some models. Personally, i think it's a great deal.
