Hello WVU Cycling!

This is Nathan Kile, the Adventure Sports Coordinator at WVU. I wanted
to pass along that it’s about time to kick off the Morgantown
Adventure Sports Series for 2011. We’ve made a few improvements, lined
up some great sponsors and are poised to make this year’s events even
better than before! I hope that you will join us for the fun and
please help spread word about these great events. Below you will find
our 2011 race line-up. One of our biggest changes is the addition of
the XTERRA Big Bear Triathlon / Duathlon is September! Please feel
free to contact me with any questions or comments you may have. Please
visit our website for registration or more in depth information on the
events.

In addition to participants we are always seeking volunteers to help
make the events great. If you’d like to help out, please drop me an
email or give me a call. Thanks and I’ll see you on the trails!

- Get Lost! Orienteering Competition – April 3rd, 1pm-5pm at Coopers
Rock State Forest

Description: The Get Lost will challenge solo races and teams of two
as they race against the clock to locate various checkpoints located
throughout the woods of Coopers Rock State Forest. This event is
designed for navigators of all abilities and is a great way to spend a
beautiful spring afternoon. Custom race maps will be provided and
there are various categories for different skill levels.

- Mountain Duathlon – April 9th, 11am start at Coopers Rock State
Forest

Description: A tremendous way to kick off the multisport season, the
Mountain Duathlon will challenge athletes as they trail run 2-miles,
mountain bike 8-miles, and finish with a second 2-mile trail run. This
event is open to individual athletes and also has a relay division.

- Friendship Hill 5-Mile Trail Run – April 30th, 9am start at
Friendship Hill National Historic Site

Description: Ask a participant from the inaugural event in 2010 and
they will tell you that this race has one beautiful and occasionally
challenging course. Located just 10 miles north of downtown
Morgantown, Friendship Hill is owned by the National Park Service and
contains over 10 miles of scenic trails. Our course will take runners
on a loop around the grounds and covers a variety of terrain including
grassy pathways, twisty single track, packed dirt and limestone, and
the instantly infamous “stairmaster section" which takes racers from
river level back up to the hill top.

- Coopers Rock Stump Jump! 10K Trail Run – September 3rd, 8:30am start
at Coopers Rock State Forest

Description: A challenging 10K run on the Coopers Rock trails, this
event makes for a perfect way to kick-off a day of WVU Football. Run
the race, go tailgate, and watch the game! What more do I need to
say?

- XTERRA Big Bear Triathlon / Duathlon – September 11th, 8:30 start at
Big Bear Lake Camplands

Description: A USAT Sanctioned triathlon and part of the XTERA America
Tour, the inaugural XTERRA Big Bear is going to be the biggest event
of our series. Athletes will complete a .75 mile open water swim in
pristine Big Bear Lake before mountain biking 14 miles and trail
running a 6.5 mile loop on the epic trails of the venue. For those
who’d rather run than swim, we will also be offering a duathlon option
which substitutes an opening 2-mile trail run for the swim. Relay team
are welcome.

- Deckers Creek Adventure Race – October 9th, 1pm start at Ruby
McQuain Park in Morgantown

Description: Benefitting the Friends of Deckers Creek, the DCAR is one
super fun race. Completed by teams of three, participants will run,
bike, paddle, rappel, and tackle a multitude of special mystery
challenges along the route. This will be the 5th year for this event!
If you haven’t tried it yet, come out and see what you’ve been
missing!

Best wishes,
Nathan Kile, Series Director
