Hey guys, I'm sure you know I'm not usually one for charity/memorial/ pay group rides but this one is close to home for me. For those of you who don't know the story, 4 years ago I was helping lead a group ride from the shop in Buckhannon. about 15 miles into the ride we crossed a bridge where some high school kids were swimming, I was in a group off the front with Morgan Miller and Tom Woods (local tri-god, and the only triathlete I've ever thought was worth the bike he rode but i digress...) A guy ran at us waving a rubber snake and we all almost hit him. After a couple rollers a girl in a red sports car rolled up and told us we should go back because our friend had wrecked. When we got back Cecil Jarvis was laying in the middle of the bridge and the guy with the snake was sitting on the far corner of the bridge crying (I'll leave it at that.) Cecil passed away on the way to the hospital from the trauma.
Every year we do a ride on that route on Saturday morning around 11 am (not completely sure on the time as of now but that's what it's been in the past) in memory of Cecil during the Strawberry Festival. The point being, this next weekend is the ride and I plan to go. If anyone's in town it'd be nice to have someone to ride with. I'll drive and lunch has been provided in the past. The ride's about 30 miles with a bail out option. Pace will be as fast as the slowest rider until the bail point, then moderate for the next 15-20 miles. I'd be up for tacking on a bonus ride afterwards...or not. Let me know if you can/would like to go. http://ghostbikes.org/buckhannon/j-cecil-jarvis
