TWO NBA PLAYERS: NO TO WAR National Basketball Association players seldom make public statements against the international policies of the U.S. government. So when professional athletes come out against the war on Iraq, it deserves attention. Steve Nash is a white Canadian and an All-Star guard with the Dallas Mavericks. Nash first drew ire from some in the mainstream media in early February when he wore a "No War, Shoot for Peace" T-shirt at the NBA All-Star weekend in Atlanta. Since the start of the military aggression against Iraq, Nick Van Exel-- Nash's Black teammate--has reportedly raised his opposition to the war. Nash states that the response of fans to his position has been "unbelievably positive." --M.M. - END - (Copyright Workers World Service: Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this document, but changing it is not allowed.
