I suggest you don't bother with javascript at all; just use
a mailto link.

There's an example in the spec that seems similar to what you're after:

     Click
     <a href="mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]&amp;[EMAIL PROTECTED]&amp;body=hello">
     mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]&amp;[EMAIL PROTECTED]&amp;body=hello</a> to
     send a greeting message to <i>Joe and Bob</i>.
