Ah, interesting. I had a similar problem under Linux, where keyboard events were not being detected. My 'workaround' was to use 'tab' to change the focus within the window to the panel which had the even listener, only when it had focus were keyboard events triggered. Subsequently someone suggested that "WXCore.windowSetFocus" could be used, it takes in the panel which needs focus and worked for me.
