I hope I understood your email correctly. I think this should work:
$bitmap_button->Enable(1) to enable (switch to normal state)
$bitmap_button->Enable(0) to disable the button

Thanks bungsu. That is exactly what I was looking for. It seems to be
buried pretty well in the documentation. In fact, I can't find any mention
of it anywhere!
