I have been unable to rely upon system version (or require end user to install 
wxwdigets) and have built my own copy in a folder in our application build 
folder (this is true of Perl as well)  
When Alien-wxwdigets is installed (against my own Perl) the widgets libraries 
or installed in site/lib.
Wx-Perl uses these.
I can add that LIBRARY_PATH etc can be problematic so I have made good use of 
runpath when building all.

I am not sure if this helps any.
