I am wondering if anyone is working on an introductory programming text for
X10? The language specifications and available tutorials are very useful for
existing programmers. However, the language will really take off once
someone produces a textbook for non-programmers that can be used for an
introductory programming course. Given the ubiquity of multi-processor
laptops and desktops, as well as the broad accessibility of HPC machines, we
really need to start teaching basic programming courses with a language
designed specifically for multiprocessors. This is especially true for
students going into sciences other than computer science, who are unlikely
to ever learn a second computer language.
