Maybe this is not the right place to ask, but I’ll give it a tray. Updated from
Snowleopard to Mavericks and found the “invisible barrier” problem when using
Quartz (X11) window forwarding. I updated to Yosemite and found the same issue.
I have read that this is an OS issue and not a Quartz issue, though for my
question it does not really matter.

This is my issue, I have an external display hooked up to my MBP running
10.10.X. When I launch an X11 window using XQuartz (localy or via ssh) the
window pops up half way outside of the bottom of the screen on the “laptop” and
I cannot raise it higher on the screen. When I drag it over to the external
display, it is still “stuck” halfway up and I cannot move it upwards. I can
move the window in any other direction but it is like there is an invisible
border that I cannot cross.

I read that this is due to the “spaces” setting of mission control “Displays
have separate Spaces” and that turning this option of solves the issue. It
might, but then you loose the “to menu” on the external screen. So I did some
poking around and found the following. If i do this:

launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchAgents/org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist
sudo rm -rf /tmp/launch*/org.macosforge.xquartz:0
launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist

Then I log out and log back in. Now I can move the X11 window anywhere I wan’t
without any “invisible ghost borders”. This is how I want it to always behave!
This works for some time, at some point when I disconnect from the external
display and/or close the lid on the MBP the error re-emerges and I have to
repeat all of this again.

Is there any way that I can do whatever is being done “manually”, can I take a
copy of any file when it is working and replace some file when it stops working
to not have to go through this process every time? Or set som sort of
“something”, like a display variable or launch the X11 with some option so that
this works without this whole circus?

Best regards (sorry for the font-mixing)
