Lars, Laurent, Peter, Bill, Jon, Tom, and Mike, Many thanks -- I knew throwing this out to the community would quickly fix my problem, and I'm deeply grateful (I had spent _hours_ trying to figure this out before admitting defeat!).
The thing that worked for me was to simply use "port install emacs +x11 " -- et voila, emacs in my X session! My only remaining question, if someone has a few idle moments: how would one use brew to do the same thing? (...our Big Company Overlords would prefer that we use brew over port; I have to use my phone as a hotspot to get around network lockdowns when using port! :-) Thanks again, Tim > On Mar 28, 2017, at 7:36 AM, Lars-Johan Liman <[email protected]> wrote: > > Another option: > > If you're not dependig on specific X11 functions on the Mac, I can > warmly recommend http://www.emacsformacosx.com/, a very good Emacs > that is true to its roots.
