Lars, Laurent, Peter, Bill, Jon, Tom, and Mike,
Many thanks -- I knew throwing this out to the community would quickly fix my
problem, and I'm deeply grateful (I had spent _hours_ trying to figure this out
before admitting defeat!).

The thing that worked for me was to simply use "port install emacs +x11 " -- et
voila, emacs in my X session!

My only remaining question, if someone has a few idle moments: how would one
use brew to do the same thing? (...our Big Company Overlords would prefer that
we use brew over port; I have to use my phone as a hotspot to get around
network lockdowns when using port! :-)

Thanks again,
Tim
