Copy & paste between X Quartz and 'regular' Mac applications works reasonably well for me with everything checked in the X11 Preferences Pasteboard tab.
My main complaints are that 'regular' Mac applications cannot do Focus Follows Mouse and simply selecting text in a 'regular' Mac window does not put it into the clipboard ready for pasting (but the other direction does work). There is also the occasional focus stealing from an X window by some 'regular' Mac application. I prefer using Linux with Xfce, but I have made my MacBook work in a similar way.
