Hi guys, This is a very weird problem that I've never seen. I am migrating from my MacBook Pro 15 running Mojave to my new MacBook Pro 16 running Catalina. On Catalina, I have installed both Xquartz and X11 (1.20.6 using MacPorts). I have found that Xquartz (or X11) cannot context switch context with either Spotlight or clicking on its icon in its original directory, for example clicking on the icon in Applications/MacPorts/X11 does activate X11 on the menubar. The only way to activate Xquartz (or X11) is to click on the Xquartz (or X11) icon on the DOCK.
Summary of actions on Catalina: (1) Start Xquartz or X11. (2) Xquartz (or X11) icon appears in DOCK. (3) X11 appears on menubar (4) Switch away to some other app. (5) Try switching back using Spotlight. Spotlight finds Xquartz (or X11) but menubar does not switch context to show Xquartz (or X11) menubar. (6) Try switching back by clicking on original icon that is in Applications/Utilities/Xquartz (or Applications/MacPorts/X11), menubar does not switch context to show Xquartz (or X11) menubar. (7) Clicking on Xquartz (or X11) icon in DOCK switches context successfully. XQuartz (or X11) menubar appears. I have never seen this problem prior to Catalina. I have not seen any other app behave this way as well on Catalina. This Xquartz and X11 is a complete fresh install and so is there some security switch that I need to throw to allow the correct context switching for Xquartz? Has anyone seen this as well? Catalina bug? Thanks (and Happy Thanksgiving!) cytan
