And if worse comes to worst, and you start your xterms using the command key 
shortcut provided by XQuartz, you could edit that command to use command line 
arguments to set the geometry and background color. You’d have to use ‘man 
xterm’ to find the arguments’ syntax. Or it shouldn’t be hard to find examples 
online.   (example:  xterm -sl 1000 )
