I'm aware of this - those CoreGraphics changes (and the inability of both XQuartz and MacPorts to work around them) have left my usage of X11 as a slooow and painful experience when using the Cadence IC layout software. For that use case, doing IC layout like playing that old Mac game Crystal Quest (which is really showing my age!). Jeremy has commented that XQuartz needs to go the path of Wayland for that to ever get fixed, but that's a whole new thing and I'd guess unlikely to happen in my remaining working lifetime... > > In another message he said that a new version was 50% ready but with only > retired developers at work. > > What is your experience with MacPorts ? Pretty much exactly the same as XQuartz. I keep hoping I'll eventually notice something different or that things get snappier, but no such luck so far. > Is there any problem with installing MacPorts side by side to Xquartz and > then switching between the two ?
