Technically, this is not a problem in this special case. However, regarding Ubuntu's journey drifting further and further away from native Debian I quite fancy the idea of providing Debian packages and Ubuntu packages separately. For users this probably is also easier to understand: Debian packages for Debian, Ubuntu packages for Ubuntu.
