So _every_ X connection can have caching proxies at both ends? I like
it. I always thought it was too bad RAM and fast CPU's weren't cheap
when the original X development happened.

X connections carry a high payload. What it needs is integrating the NX proto into Xorg (as a second way of transferring the X stream).

Any chance of throwing in a chromecast/airplay-like streaming video
mirror in the process (w/h.264 compression and decent performance...)?
That might stir up more interest.

We are currently working on some other solution for video playing... (keywords: TeleKinesis with TelePlayer).
