We use Rasbperry PI for 6 nodes and they work fine.

You must use the following settings

"Use WAN or ADSL" instead of LAN

make sure you have a very good atleast 100MBPS lan setup between your
raspberry to your x2go server.


Rasbperry PI is usable as a thin client ( web browsing / php development )
but not very fast. ( for youtube videos ).

You may try Cubie Truck3 or Intel Atom  with any mini itx box as step Ups
